Patterns do not always arise in the same way or context each time.
If we cannot change a pattern or cycle, we can always shift how we relate to it through context.
I can’t control how groggy I feel when I wake up, but I can choose whether or not to hit play on a guided meditation that helps me recenter, or practice my simple phasic awareness exercise that brings me back into the conscious realm.
I can't control the intensity of my dreams or how their emotional residue follows me into the day, but I can process them in my journal.
When I notice what repeats, I can better respond rather than react, so that I don't take out my grogginess on my partner when i’m clearly just in need of alone time before socializing in the morning...
Because reaction keeps us stuck in predictable patterns.
Responding with awareness helps us actually find choice and desired change. (like how my morning altar time is something i now look forward to visiting, so I can show up to breakfast better able to connect openly with my loved one)
It all revolves around remembering to reorient from the repetitive versions of "I'm not doing good enough" in your head, to that tactile feeling and soothing sound of your pencil scratching it all onto paper.
Mental patterns are cycles too,
and cycles occur so we can reflect & remember.
When we re-orient from being caught in cognitive cycles to observing and relating from our sentient center, we are practicing Cyclical Mindfulness.
Cyclical Mindfulness helps us reflect on these cycles and how they interact with all our other cycles.
